what is the results of International Standards in multilateral Trade on Local & National Legal Systems of the WTO\'s States this is my research.. thesis that i was preparing... I think there is too many effects in this field.. like the effects of the WTO\'s legal system on the national legal systems of all member states involved in these agreements, concidering that the rules and regulations of the WTO, including the GATS, will be become the international commercial constitution in the near future which will consequentially necessitate some change in the internal legal systems of these member states to be in accordance with this new international constitution . I would suggest that the increased importance of bodies such as Codex Alimentarius should be addressed. As the international standard-setting body for food safety, and the organization to which the WTO refers in food safety disputes, Codex holds to high scientific standards. Yet, because of its increased importance, it also has become more of a target of political pressures that would bring other non-scientific concerns into its standard-setting. Also, in the whole area of international standards, it is critical that developing countries\' concerns are considered. If rich countries promote standards almost impossible for poor countries to meet, those act as non-tariff trade barriers. [view message]

As one who has worked in the field of standards and regulations for many years I am a little surprised at the focus on customs standards and the ECE standards. Little of this has any relationship to the TBT Agreement or SPS Agreements which are the principle agreements with respect to standards and technical regulations. It is difficult to imagine that the TBT Secretariat was consulted on the agenda. [view message]
